NTI has installed radio technology for monitoring large vessels to provide communities with publicly available, real-time information about ship traffic. The vessel monitoring technology, called Automatic Identification System, is mandatory for large vessels on international voyages as per international law. By installing receivers in key areas, NTI is able to track large vessels and provide Nunavummiut with real-time information about shipping traffic.
